Late 19th century
Anatolian “grain sack” or rug. A Classic tribal transport bag or “ala chuval” rug, possibly from Central Anatolia, Kirsehir/Cappadocia region.
Opened up to be used as a floor rug, table cover or a wall hanging. The decorated middle section was originally the front of the bag, while the plain-woven bands comprised the back. Made strictly for domestic use, the best examples of age-old tribal weaving traditions, with particular motifs signifying actual tribal lineage.
