While living in India Michael Beste became fascinated by the arts and traditions of the country and its peoples.

On his return to Germany in the mid-80’s, he set up Noah’s Ark – a place which reflects his love and respect for the wealth and diversity of India’s culture through the ages

He travels regularly to Asia to explore and purchase for Noah’s Ark.

His customers include museums and galleries as well as individual collectors. His pieces are found in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Völkerkundemuseum in Berlin, the Deutsches Textilmuseum in Krefeld, the Reiss Museum in Mannheim and the Grassi Museum in Leipzig.

He is a specialist in the textile traditions of India. You find his article on the Baghs and Phulkaris of the Punjab in HALI 113 (Nov/Dec 2000).

Together with his wife, he also creates wearable necklaces and earrings from old gold and silver pieces, which they combine with precious stones.
